How did you find ABA? Was there anything in particular that drew you to the field?

I found ABA when I was in my last semester of my senior year of college. I had taken a developmental psychology class to fulfill my psychology minor. While discussing different developmental delays, I was curious if there were any careers I could pursue. I reached out to my professor, and she was the one who told me about the field of ABA. I have always wanted to work with children and make a difference in their life, so ABA was perfect for me.

Your job is to teach children new skills, but often the children teach us things as well. What is something you have learned from a child?

Working with children, I’ve learned to have more patience. For us, we may have completed a certain skill hundreds of times before, but for a child at this age, this may be their first time.

If we did a preference assessment for you, which reinforcers would we find?

I really enjoy cooking, especially for other people! I also love to travel!

Can you share a favorite resource about ABA?

I have a favorite ABA podcast. The podcast is by Study Notes ABA (SNABA), a company that provides tips on studying for your board exam. SNABA invites guests and other BCBAs to discuss topics relevant to them. SNABA then uses behavioral terms to compare to the discussion topic to assist with studying with the exam.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of this job is watching these kids grow and progress independently. I also love working with the families and seeing them smile
